Large LEGO Build? Support the center with DONUTS.

When creating really large LEGO builds you frequently have to find a way to support the center of the structure. Of course, you want to save weight and minimize the bricks you use (to save money). Master Builders will frequently use internal metal supports and rods because their builds are moved from place to place or have the legal issues of kids potentially climbing on them.

For home use, or the LEGO purist that only wants to use bricks, consider using a torus. A torus flares out at the top and the bottom but is hollow in the middle – think about a donut on its edge. It can be built either studs up or SNOT (Studs Not On Top) depending on your builds particular needs. At Brick-X we’ve used the torus for many builds including human figures, supporting mountains, and space craft.
