LEGO Moments in Space Winner

LEGO just announced the winner of the Moments in Space contest and we totally agree with the selection.  Most folks have at least seen the coin operated rides in toy stores or shopping malls and probably have some fond memories of going for a ride in one. The Cosmic Rocket Ride by mjsmiley captures that moment perfectly – including the neat addition of the coin box using the LEGO postal box element. There is not a lot of engineering with this project, but it makes us feel good. This build will become one of the official Gift with Purchase sets that LEGO will provide in a future promotion.

One of the runner ups – “Our Place in Space” by Scarlet Fantastic uses armillary-like gearing to have the Earth, with Galileo, rotate the Sun. It an awesome build for beginners just learning about gears and we tip our hair to Scarlet for the design.
